Now in it’s 21st year, this fulltime, professional 5-piece band specializes in Swing and can include rhumbas, cha-chas, waltzes, 50’s oldies and light pop. Rex can expertly MC at weddings, parties, grand openings, jazz festivals and knows exactly the right tempos for dancing.

Rex Allen has been a fixture on the local jazz scene for more than 20 years. His San Francisco based 14-piece big band has made at least three national tours, including its 1993 “Salute To Glenn Miller” tour that played before 160,000 people. Nearer to home, the band frequently plays special events like the Governor’s Ball, and has packed the house at locations ranging from Santa Cruz’s famed Coconut Grove Ballroom to the Fairmont Hotel’s Venetian Room.

Though chronologically a Baby Boomer, Allen is sentimentally attached to the past — at least when it comes to jazz. He started performing at the tender age of 26 as featured jazz trombone soloist with the new Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. At 29, he appeared as bandleader and emcee of the 1979 Fabulous Forties tour of 61 cities. He’s been associated with lots of great bands, including Bob Crosby’s Bobcats and Gene Krupa Orchestra.
