Dr. Kris Palmer has been instructing fellow flutists since 1992: from advanced adult flutists and college undergraduates to middle-school musicians and young children just beginning to play the recorder. She enjoys working with students of all ages seeking to enrich their minds and their lives with music as well as those interested in pursuing music professionally. She is experienced with assisting young musicians with recital, audition, and competition preparation, and she can help a flutist discover and create solo and ensemble performance opportunities throughout the bay area. The author of “Ornamentation According to CPE Bach & JJ Quantz”, she is particularly well-versed in the study of flute music from the Classical and Baroque eras. As the mother of a disable child, she is passionate about teaching music to those with learning differences.

“Dr. Palmer’s knowledge of early 18th-century French agrements is comprehensive and refined; she exercised great taste and feeling in their use to celebrate the music as given. Palmer is clearly among the few current performers on any instrument to fully understand the nature of this music.”
New York Concert Review, Summer 2001

“Clearly, Palmer is knowledgeable about ornamentation…and her knowledge of the subject is very thorough.”
American Music Teacher Magazine, August/September 2002

Dr. Palmer made her New York Recital Debut at Carnegie Hall in 2001 to rave reviews as a winner in the Artists International Competition, and she has performed as a concerto soloist with orchestras in the United States and Europe. She has earned a second-place finish in the National Flute Association’s Young Artist Competition, and her solo CD, Versailles, features her own arrangements of French Baroque music. She holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Rice University, and she is a former member of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of Albuquerque. She performs regularly as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestra musician in classical music, musical theatre, and popular contemporary music throughout Northern California.
