Violinist Christina Knudson has been an avid teacher in the Bay Area since moving to San Francisco in 2008. Ms. Knudson has taught for the Northern California Music and Arts Culture Center (NCMACC) in addition to maintaining a private violin studio. She has experience teaching students from age 3 to adult and from absolute beginner to college-level students. As a conservatory trained violinist, she teaches a solid foundation in violin technique, theory and repertoire.
Ms. Knudson has received training in Suzuki Books 1-3 as well as teacher training in the Mark O’Connor Method Books 1-2. As a violin teacher, her goal is to create a positive learning environment while cultivating the student’s love for music. She strongly believes in developing music-reading and ear-training skills in her student’s music education. In 2012, she has joined the faculty of the Napa Valley Youth Orchestra as co-director and conductor of String Sinfonia. She also leads an advanced technique class for a select number of youth symphony members.
As a performer, Ms. Knudson holds positions in California Symphony, Stockton Symphony and Symphony Napa Valley. She has also performed with Bay Area’s Berkeley Community Chorus and Orchestra as Concertmaster and Principal Second, Merced Symphony as Assistant Principal Second, and frequently performs with Berkeley Symphony and Monterey Symphony. In addition to performing with these orchestras, Ms. Knudson has participated in the National Repertory Orchestra in Colorado, the National Orchestral Institute in Maryland and the Hot Springs Festival in Arkansas. During her stay in Hot Springs, Ms. Knudson appeared as soloist with the Hot Springs Festival Orchestra for a masterclass with Janet Sung. This summer she can be heard performing at the Lake Tahoe Music Festival.
Ms. Knudson received her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from California State University, Long Beach, where she graduated magna cum laude. She graduated with a Master of Music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and completed the Professional Studies Diploma the following year at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music as a scholarship student of Bettina Mussumeli. She has previously studied with Phillip Levy, Bing Wang, Catherine Van Hoesen and Mateja Marinkovic. In her spare time, Ms. Knudson enjoys running marathons and climbing mountains.
