1st Annual Local 6 BBQ / PICNIC!
Sunday, Sept 5, 2010 2-7pm
San Pablo Reservoir
“The Pines” Picnic Area
7301 San Pablo Dam Rd
El Sobrante

by Betsy London, Local 6 Board of Directors

What was I thinking when I volunteered to set up a Local 6 party? After the panic settled down, I knew that the thing to do was to get a committee together so I could share the responsibility/blame!! Well, a wonderful group of people volunteered: Erin Vang, Carole Klein, Steve D’Amico, Daria D’Andrea, and moi…. We have tried to tackle the idea that it would be fun to get together in a non-working situation, for a change, to see people whom we might not otherwise see for years at a time, and to just relax.

The first challenge was picking a date. Of course, there would never be a perfect date for which everyone was free, but we did try to find out when the Opera/Ballet/Symphony musicians were working, and we made the hours long enough that someone could drop in and then run off to a gig if necessary. The next project was picking a place. We checked out sites in several different parks before choosing San Pablo Reservoir. Steve says it is 45 minutes from Pacifica, so we figured that was not too far for people to go. (Like driving to work, except no worries about being on time!)

Local 6 will be providing hotdogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers and beer, and we are hoping people will bring various side dishes to share. You can also bring whatever else you might want to BBQ and other drinks. There is a $6.50 parking fee per car, and we will provide a keg, with a minimal charge per drink. No swimming is allowed, but there is hiking, boating, fishing and just hanging out. It’s really a beautiful spot that makes you think you are up in the Sierras, without the hours of driving to get there. So, come relax and have fun with your family - and your musical family! Check out the details on

and RSVP!! If you don’t have access to a computer, call Betsy at 510-653-1011, and leave your name and the number of people you are bringing.
